Note: the line numbering used below follows the arrangement of the Sibu congkan edition. For readers using David Hawkes's translation, he excises lines 45 and 46 (曰黃昏以為期兮，羌中道而改路) on the grounds that "[i]t is the only line in the poem which does not belong to a couplet and cannot have been in Wang Yi's text, since it lacks a comment by him but is explained when it reappears later in the anthology (Jiu zhang, 'The Outpouring of Sad Thoughts', ll.14-15)" (p. 84).
