Exploring the Peking Gazette (jingbao 京報)

This project will bring together examples of the "Peking Gazette," the publicly available government gazette that was published, distributed, and sold in a variety of print and manuscript formats during the Qing period. Once compiled, these examples allow us to compare gazettes published in different periods (from 1770 through the late 19th century) in order to understand the evolution of gazettes as texts and as material objects.

The first set of materials for transcription are from the late Qianlong reign and date to a period of heightened central control over gazette publishing.
