It is well-known that it has a cooling power, wherefore having been plastered on with barley-groats or bread it heals cases of erysipelas and shingles. With honey and also with raisins it treats epinyctis, inflammations of the testicles, and carbuncles. With bruised corn it relieves scrofulous swellings and and tumors. The seed when drunk with something sweet gets rid of worms and it is generative of semen, but if too much is taken it disturbs one’s reason dangerously, wherefore it is necessary to keep guard against excessive use. The juice, when mixed with lead or litharge and with vinegar or rose extract helps with inflammations of surface tumors.
