The fruit of this is called cachry. Its leaves bear a likeness to fennel, but are wider and lie on the ground in a circle. Its stem is one cubit long and greater, having many branches and a cluster at the top, upon which there is much fruit, [which is] white, and resembling a vertebra, it is round, having nooks, pungent, smelling like resin, and burning to the taste when chewed. The root is white, of good size, and smelling of frankincense. It grows in rocky and rugged places. When its leafage is plastered on it shrinks hemorrhoids, swellings, and soothes the anus, and it brings to a head callous lumps, scrofulous swellings, and ailments which periodically refuse to be assimilated. The dried roots with honey clease wounds, cure colic, and are suitable for the victims of animal bites when drunk with wine; they draw the monthly flow and disperse old tumors when plastered on. The juice of the root and of the leafage, mixed with honey, [makes] sharpsightedness when smeared on. The fruit does the same things when drunk, it also helps with boughts of epilepsy and long-term conditions in the chest, and jaundice when given with pepper and wine. It causes persiration when rubbed on with olive oil, and it is suitable for spasms and fractures, and for cases of gout when plastered on evenly with with fine wheat-meal and vinegar, and it wipes clean dull-white leprousy when mixed with very sharp vinegar.
